Teaching the teachers

One of me in SL

This is "me"

Well that was a bit of a damp Bank Holiday! I think it’s time we all complained to the management about the weather we are having these days – these temperatures are just not allowed at this time of year. June is supposed to be flaming hot! Never mind it’s back to work today and thoughts return to how to achieve our ends successfully.

We seem to keep saying that we must teach the teachers – the NMC Horizon Report is yet another report that tells us so. Often the focus is on teaching new teachers as in this report that focuses on the K12 children but what about those teachers who are already teaching? How, when and where do we teach the current teachers about Digital Literacy and what it means for them and their students? Someone suggested that the Uni students with good digital technology skills should teach the lecturers how to use them effectively. What do you think – how would you feel either teaching the lecturer or being taught by the student?

Oh and just in case you haven’t seen it before – this is the funniest blog entry I’ve seen for years.

About timjohnson
I came through a tortuous path to the role of Adviser in Digital Literacy in the Information and Learning Services Department. In the past I was a: Senior Lecturer in Health Informatics, Senior Lectuer in Midwifery, Midwifery Sister, Staff Midwife, Nurse, Secretary, Bars Manager. I would have liked to be a jeweller and silver smith but of course there is always retirement for that :)
